Even with the advent of daylight saving time, the March weather at best could be judged as chilly. That isn't stopping the opening of pool clubs in Las Vegas.

The Hard Rock Beach Club opened last weekend. Participants will have to wait until May 1 for Friday Night's Pool Concerts to warm things up.

Daylife will open next weekend with host Kim Kardashian at MGM Grand's Wet Republic.

Though it's not summer yet, several Las Vegas hotels are opening pool clubs.

Auditions for attendants at M's pool party were recently held which means pool parties will be ready soon.

Moorea Bay at Mandalay Bay has been open for a few weeks but the prudish should be aware that it is European style.

POKER ON TV

The fifth National Heads-Up Poker Championship was played out at Caesars Palace earlier this month. The field was mostly poker pros with a smattering of celebrities, among them Danica Patrick, the best-known woman Indy car racer. The action can be seen on NBC TV on six consecutive Sundays beginning April 12. The "Last Man Standing" was almost a woman, a top pro, whose name I won't reveal. A clue is that it isn't Annie Duke, another top woman player who didn't participate, as she was busy keeping Donald Trump from firing her or her Athena teammates on the latest Trump reality show "Celebrity Apprentice."

SHOW CHANGES

"Freaks" is the new show at O'Shea's. It plays at 9 and 11 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and highlights some of the most outrageous human behavior. Something like the circus freak shows but with an adult theme.

Tom Jones is still belting them out -- now at MGM Grand's Hollywood Theater through April 1.

Andrew Dice Clay was the first person fired on the Trump reality show and he landed on his feet at the Sugarcane Lounge in The Shoppes at Palazzo.

"Love" and "Believe" have been offering some discounts to keep the audience numbers up. Locals can get a 40 percent discount on "Love" through the end of May. There is also an offer for a combo of "Love" and "Terry Fador and his Cast of Thousands" open to all. The combination of the two shows is open to all for $100. Call 1-800-963-9634. Both shows are running at the Mirage.

"Believe" is offering a 35 percent discount for students with a limit of two tickets, with no expiration shown on the offer. Seniors can receive a 25 percent discount through the end of May. Anyone ordering tickets through CrissAngel.com will receive a 40 percent discount. "Believe" is a combination of magic and Cirque du Soleil appearing at the Luxor.

Revisions in "Tony n' Tina's Italian Wedding" include having guest stars randomly appearing at the show, which has moved to Planet Hollywood.

The 2009 National Hockey League will hold its awards show at the Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms. Ticket sales begin Tuesday for the June 18 ceremony. Tickets can be purchased at the Pearl box office or through Ticketmaster.

"Play With our Cats" isn't exactly a show with felines; it is an adventure. A half-day experience begins with a one-half hour lesson on operating construction equipment. Then it's into the cab of some big cats for a dirt-moving experience. Experienced operators will be in radio contact with the adventurers to prevent them from leveling The Strip. Call 702-499-3111 and have $249 available for the training.

So long terrible's

The Herbst brand casinos will soon be history. On the brink of bankruptcy, the owners of Terrible Herbst casinos relinquished control of 15 casinos to creditors while maintaining control of its slot routes. Casinos include Terrible's in Las Vegas, the three Primm casinos, and the Sands Regent brand casinos in Northern Nevada. It is not yet known what entity will take over operation of the casinos.

Legislation has passed, without Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbon's signature, to raise the bed tax in Clark and Washoe counties to 13 percent beginning Jan. 1.
