TEMECULA - Traditional klezmer music will be on display for the final Classics at the Merc show of 2009, presented by the Golden Valley Music Society.
"A Little Klezmer for the New Year," will spotlight the Second Avenue Klezmer Ensemble, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m. in the Club at the Merc at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.
Klezmer blends the Jewish folk music of Eastern Europe with the songs of the Yiddish theatre of New York's Lower East Side.
"When we think of chamber music, we usually think of people gathering for an evening's entertainment, whether in a parlor or a grand salon," said Warren Gref, artistic director of the Golden Valley Music Society in a press release. "Klezmer is also music for gathering, for celebration, and for entertainment. It's a perfect fit for our chamber series, and a wonderful way to celebrate the turning of the year."
Tickets: $11 general admission, $5 for students with ID; at the box office, at www.temeculatheater.org, or 866-653-8696.
