Auditions will be held for the recent Broadway hit, "The Wedding Singer," at 7 p.m. Feb 15 at the Yucaipa Little Theatre.
Organizers say the show follows the plot of the 1998 movie that starred Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, centering around the misadventures in love of Robbie Hart, the wedding singer, his friend and love-interest Julia Sullivan, and her boorish fiancée, Glen Guglia.
It takes place in the 1980s and takes full advantage of the fun fashion, music and dancing of that time.
This musical was nominated for Tony Awards for best musical and best original score and received awards for outstanding lyrics, outstanding music and outstanding musical. The show continues to tour throughout North America.
"We're really excited to be able to put on such a fun and current show and look forward to getting a lot more of the community interested in participating in the theatre," said Hilary Peters, assistant director.
The cast for "The Wedding Singer" calls for a large ensemble of young to older adults. The main characters are Robbie, a 20-something musician; Sammy, Robbie's best-friend and musician; Julia, a sweet, 20-something young lady; Holly, Julia's older, wiser cousin; George, a flamboyant pianist; Glen, a egotistical 20-something business man; Rosie, a 60-ish plain-speaking grandmother; and Linda, the one who left Robbie at the altar. Musicians are particularly sought for the on-stage band. There are many other fun roles for those interested in auditioning.
The show will rehearse through the end of February, and throughout March and April, opening on April 8, and running until April 25.
Those who audition will be asked to sing a cappella and may be asked to read a scene from the script (provided). The director is veteran performer Courtney Taylor who can be reached at her office at 909-797-3647.
