Video: Seussical The Musical in Yucaipa
Horton, the faithful elephant in Dr. Seuss's "Horton Hears a Who," is at the heart of Yucaipa Little Theatre's newest production, "Seussical the Musical."
The production begins Thursday and runs through Feb. 28 - just a few day's before Dr. Seuss 106th birthday.
Directed by Christine Presley, the show follows Horton, who tries to save the world of the Whos, as well as several other famous Seuss characters, including the Grinch, Gertrude and Maisy. The Cat in the Hat acts as narrator and, true to form, mixes things up throughout the story.
"It's a really good kids show, and adults will like it to," Presley said. "We all grew up with Dr. Seuss."
Performers are both adults and children, with the youngest being age 5.
The Cat in the Hat is played by Garrett Peters, a Yucaipa High School junior; Jojo is played by Kristen Lungstrum, a Park View Middle School junior; Horton is played by actor Eric Lopez; Gertrude is played by actress and choreographer Kelly Lopez; Maisy is played by Amanda Presley, a Cal State San Bernardino student; Mr. And Mrs. Mayor are played by John and Kathleen Woolsey; and Sour Kangaroo is played by actress Hilary Peters.
Musical numbers will include "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!" "How Lucky You Are," "Green Eggs and Ham" and more.
"The music is happy, fun and upbeat," Presley said.
