A luncheon to raise awareness about women's risk for heart disease and stroke will be held Saturday in Banning.

"It's for women but men are welcome," said event spokeswoman Charlene Sakurai.

The luncheon is presented by the Banning Cultural Alliance and is part of "Go Red for Women," a national effort by the American Heart Association to combat heart disease and stroke in women.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cultural Alliance, 175 W. Hays St.

Sakurai said the venue will be decorated in shades of red, white and pink and have lots of balloons.

Local women will talk about their health experiences and a health coordinator from the Go Red movement will speak.

Guests will dine on heart-healthy fare, including homemade soups.

This is the third annual Go Red for Women luncheon presented by the Cultural Alliance. Sakurai said 65 people attended the first one, 80 the second.

For the first time, heart-shaped jewelry and other accessories will be for sale. Sakurai said the hope is that women will think about being good to themselves when they wear the items.

Admission is $12, which includes the lunch.

For more information or to register, call the Cultural Alliance at 951-922-4911.
